Google pulls mysterious COSMO app from Play Store

There is a high probability that if a new feature is launched by Google, it will be associated with AI or Gemini in some way. Gemini has found its way into almost all of Google’s products and services, and for the most part, Gemini tends to make things better.

Of course, that’s to be expected at this point, as the brand has a mature catalog of apps and services that can be easily scaled using AI. So, when a new app called COSMO appeared in the Google Play Store, it didn’t seem like much. Until it was withdrawn.

Something new that we weren’t supposed to see yet

It looks like this application could have been launched before its official release because it is no longer available on the Google Play Store. The app was discovered by 9to5Google, with COSMO being an “experimental AI assistant app for Android devices.”

Today, most AI services and features run through the cloud. This is done for a number of reasons, but mostly for efficiency. While AI models can run natively on phones and PCs, they require a lot of power, which means excessive battery drain. Additionally, some devices may lack the processing power.

Regarding COSMO details, it is an application that is more than 1GB in size and includes the Gemini Nano model. And while it may seem pretty basic, there are still plenty of useful tools, like List Tracker, Document Writer, Event Suggestions, In-Depth Research mode, Conversation Summary, and more.

This is a practical and simple set of tools that is probably one of the most common reasons why someone uses AI. For settings, there are modes for using the local model, online model, or both. However, as previously mentioned, it has now been pulled from the Play Store, meaning it was probably not meant to be available.

However, there are some mysteries here, such as whether this is just an internal tool, or will this be something that will eventually become public knowledge. With Google I/O fast approaching, there’s a good chance we’ll see this on display at the event in just a few weeks’ time.

And since this is Google we’re talking about, there’s a good chance we’ll never see it again. Whatever it is, we’ll just have to wait and see to find out.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
